Artist Statement
I began my art career in ceramics. I later discovered the joy of printmaking, and I received my MFA in Printmaking. After ceramics, the two-dimensionality of printmaking was a challenge until I began to experiment with mixed media, combining two- and three-dimensional objects on rag paper and using encaustic.
As a Japanese American, I was sent with my family to an internment/incarceration camp in Poston, Arizona during World War II. Those physical boundaries of the camps and an unhappy childhood resulted in emotional boundaries that are reflected in a lot of my work.
